  • A brief description of the book:

    This is the second index of the Indexes of Manuscripts in Istanbul, Turkey. It is the index of the Great and Eminent Imam, Raghib Pasha (May ALLAH rest his soul). He is the proprietor of the famous treasure library among other academic libraries. It is a library replete with invaluable noble manuscripts which had been accurately selected. This Library hosts more than 2538 titles and hand-written manuscripts, alongside with manuscripts hand-written by famous and renowned scientists – a matter that renders it significant among the circles of researchers. Raghib Pasha had spent his lifetime changing positions from country to another, meanwhile collecting those pearls and treasures. With all that, Raghib Pasha is an interpreter, scholar, jurist and figurative intellect. He had very good command of Arabic, Turkish and Persian languages in prose and poetry. He had several marvelous publishing in these disciplines. The academic and scientific life of this scholar had afforded him money and funds and had further allowed him to acquire these invaluable manuscripts. The First time, Raghib Pasha held the position of “Deputy Chairman” of Baghdad Governorate, then he held the position of “Head of Complaints Department”, then held the position of “Chief of Tribute Diwan”, then “Head of Authors”, then promoted to assume the position of “Mayor of Egypt”. In Egypt, Raghib Pasha authored his Book “Luck and Investigation”. Then, Raghib Pasha had been appointed as “Mayor of Al-Requa”. There, he had completed his “Notes on Al-Baydawi”. Afterwards, Raghib Pasha had been appointed as Mayor of Aleppo, then Mayor of the Levant and Prince of the Levant Pilgrimage. Meanwhile, he had been keen to collect and acquire all manuscripts. Raghib Pasha had been continuously promoted until be appointed as the Great Forefront in the era of Sultan Ottoman III. He had continued to be dedicated to science and scholars, eager to collect manuscripts and invaluable treasures until he died in Ramadan 1176 H; and had left behind an invaluable prestigious heritage. These manuscripts had been served as an eye-witness of the intent of the one who collected and endowed them. These manuscripts have been under the endowments in Mahalt Lallali in Istanbul. Once restoration activities be carried out, these manuscripts had been relocated from the old building to the As-Suliemanyiah Library so as to maintain these manuscripts. This index is the connection point between researchers on one hand and these treasures on the other hand, which serves scholars and investigators attain their aims; and further saves them time and efforts. Accordingly, we have contributed to this effort.
